LOTR: Classes: Lore-Master

From GraffeWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

The Lore-master is a pet class, crowd-control expert, debuffer, buffer, power conduit for fellows, and a part-time healer. Their cc skills are unparalleled with their abilities to mez, slow, root, stun and otherwise occupy their foes for periods of time. Patterned after Lord Elrond and Gandalf, the Lore-master is also a hybrid melee and tactical skill class being able to do decent damage with their weapons and with their direct and AOE damage skills.

Tolkein's lore sets the backdrop for the Lore-Master class. Magic use is subtle and often employs the use of nature. A famous example in the books is the use of the Ford of Bruinen, where Elrond had commanded the waters to rise up and wash away the Nazgul. Only a very, very powerful Lore-Master like Gandalf or Elrond can do that! But the in-game variety of Lore-master utilizes similar forces. Races that can become Lore-Masters include Race of Man and Elf.

Lore-masters wear light armor and use staff as their weapon of choice. The light armor means that a Lore-Master tends to be more vulnerable to any type of damage than any other class. A staff is crucial to the class. In fact, a staff must be equipped in order to use the majority of skills. They also employ summoned pets to fight foes, distract a foe or to stun a foe, or to cause a foe to have less effectiveness for a certain attack ability. Pets serve different functions based on their own skillset. Pet choices include Raven, Bear and Lynx. At the highest levels, a Lore-master can also call a Lesser Giant Eagle to their aid when they attain a special legendary trait for it.

Lore-masters typically have lots of options in a fight and can handle several foes at the same time. They can also acheive great feats of valour, defeating foes other classes can only marvel at throught their use of stuns, mezzes, pets, self-heals and tactical damage skills. Due to the variety of skills that they offer, they are highly desired in both high-end raids and common fellowship groups at all levels.

  • Sign of the Wild: Rage (Pet buff. Increases a pet's aggro and slightly slows pet attacks)

[edit] Passive Skills

These skills are simply incremental upgrades in our physical melee and defensive capabilities. All classes get these, but some classes can go to a higher level in them than the max level for Lore-Masters.

  • Accuracy (Levels 1 to 3)
  • Melee Critical (Levels 1 to 4)
  • Evade-Chance (Levels 1 to 3)
  • Parry-Chance (Levels 1 to 3)

[edit] Pets

Pets provide support for a Lore-Master's tactics and effectiveness. They function as damage dealers, methods of distraction, buffers, and debuffers. The three purchased pets are Raven, Bear and Lynx. Lesser Giant Eagle is a legendary pet, available through completing a special class quest. Each of these pets is fully controllable, and can be ordered to be in offensive, passive or 'guard' modes. They can be ordered to attack, follow, or stay. Assist is also a toggle that can be combined with any of the modes. Each pet also does common melee damage and has its own suite of unique skills.

Pets have the ability to flank a foe, when it happens a small icon appears under the mob's icon and there is a visual of two arrows flashing near the mob itself that indicates that mob has been "Flanked!" The "Flanked!" condition lasts for 7 seconds, so a Lore-master has to keep aware of when it is happening to take advantage. Flanked! is a debuff on a mob that opens up a couple of opportunities for the Lore-master. Sign of Power: Wizardry on a Flanked! mob provides a morale boost to the Lore-Master. Staff-strike on a Flanked! mob provides a damage bonus.

Lastly, pets have reactive abilities, functioning similar to Flanked!, that debuff or damage a mob. These are also indicated by a small icon under the mob's icon. One of them, 'Harried' is universal to all pets. Harried mobs get a 25% reduction in run speed for a duration of seven seconds. The Raven and Lynx have unique reactives, discussed below.

[edit] Raven

  • Attainable from a trainer at Level 4
  • +15 Shadow Resistance to Lore-Master and any fellows
  • Good dodge amount, poor armor.
  • Small damage, but fast attack speed. Flanks almost as much as the Lesser Giant Eagle Pet.
  • Benediction of the Raven: clickable skill, Raven lowers a foe's resistance to fire by 10 percent
  • Distraction: clickable skill, Raven decreases a foe's ranged offensive damage by 50 percent and raises their chance to miss by 10 percent.
  • Evasion: clickable skill, buffs Raven to provide 50 percent to evade chance, add 20 percent to common damage mitigation and add 30 percent to Shadow mitigation.
  • The Raven is primarily helpful at providing shadow damage resistance in groups, distracting foes, debuffing a missle foe and at increasing a Lore-master's fire damage attacks.
  • Reactive: Dizzy. Does extra damage upon proc, and debuffs a mob with a 15% miss chance for 15 seconds.

[edit] Bear

  • Attainable from a trainer at Level 14
  • Poor dodge amount, good armor.
  • Good damage, but slow attack speed. Hardly flanks at all.
  • Roaring Challenge: A clickable taunt that forces a mob to face the Bear pet for six seconds.
  • Shatter Arms: A clickable skill that causes the Bear to debuff a foe, adding 8 percent to their melee and ranged vulnerability.
  • Bear Hug: A clickable skill that causes damage to a foe, often stunning them for a short time in the process. This is a nice skill to have as its an extra stun. I usually keep it on toggle so it fires automatically.
  • The Bear is primarily helpful in situations where you absolutely, positively have to get a foe off of your Lore-master. But at most levels this buys you an extra two seconds or so. Not all that helpful. Also the bear gets stuck in doorways and other landscape features sometimes, more than with the other pets.

[edit] Lynx

  • Attained from a trainer at level 30
  • Great damage output, but vulnerable to damage. Flanks more than the Bear, but still not very much.
  • Stealth: The lynx defaults to stealth mode, once it is idle. It can attack from stealth mode, after which it pops out of the mode, and it travels in stealh mode.
  • Surprise Attack - This skill can only be done if the Lynx is in stealth mode. It attacks a mob with a sneak attack for alot of damage
  • Feral Strike - Damage attack, single target. Very nice damage and a short cooldown.
  • Slashing Claws - AOE attack on up to 5 targets, and does good damage. Great for tough situations where multiple adds need to be taken down quickly.
  • Our best dps pet, but also the most fragile. Great pet for taking normal mobs down quickly but is weaker in protracted battles against elite/master elite/nemesis mobs and highly vulnerable to mobs with AE attacks such as trolls.
  • Reactive: Savage Bleed. Upon proc, inflicts a DOT that does 46 common damage every five seconds for 10 seconds.

[edit] Lesser Giant Eagle

  • Attainable as a Legendary Trait, by completing the two class quests at Level 45
  • Provides a +1 power regen buff in combat for the Lore-Master and any fellows
  • Decent dodge amount, decent armor. Interrupts caster mobs, which is ~very~ nice to have. Plus the Lesser Giant Eagle is one level lower than you, meaning its one level higher than all your other pets when summoned.
  • Good damage, fast attack speed, flanks more than any other pet we have
  • Fan the Flames: Works in conjunction with Burning Embers. A clickable skill that fears mobs and increases fire damage on a mob that has Burning Embers active on it.
  • Beak Rend: A clickable skill that deals AOE damage to a group of foes, and heals the eagle pet. Doesn't heal the Lore-master, as has been suggested sometimes (or wished for anyways!)
  • Sacrifice: If you get defeated and the Lesser Giant Eagle pet is still alive, this skill causes an auto resurrection. The Eagle sacrifices itself and revives you with around 30% health and no power. It works well most of the time, but for it to work your eagle pet has to be 1) alive and 2) in combat.
  • Our most powerful pet all around. Once you get it, you won't even have to bother with the other pets.

Elrond instructs you then collect eight missing pages. Pages drop off of Evil Men, Evil Dwarves, Ancient Evil creatures, Giant-kind, Orc-kind, Troll-kind, or Wights. Four pages drop in Angmar and four pages drop in the Misty Mountains. These pages are not tradeable and must be collected in person by the LM. Page collection works in the same way as deed completion, the pages get credited towards the deed upon pickup and do not persist in inventory.
  • Raises the power of your pets significantly making them into a "Signature" pet.
  • Gives pets increased morale, attack, critical chances, stealth, stealth detection, and defenses.

[edit] Sword and Staff
