Colbens sent this in
concerning creating the Staff of the Wheel (note: this is the lowest level
I have heard to successfully combine the rods):
"I would just like to tell all the low level wizards out there
that in the ice comet staff of the wheel quest you can still do it at
a low level and get success. I was level 25 and I successfully combined
the rods to make the staff of the wheel and star of eyes. I was worried
that I would fail hearing reports that research skill was a factor etc
but my research was limited to the 10 points I put into it. Just thought
u would like to know.

Thank you Colbens!

Before I start any work
on the site, I just wanted to say Happy Halloween! If you are young enough
to go out and Trick or Treat, be safe! If you are old enough that where
you have kids, don't steal too much of their candy! If you are like me
and are old enough to have kids but don't have any...... don't steal too
much candy from the pass out bowl!

Caith of Karana noticed
a few errors on the emote list. Guess I could blame it on Verant's quality

Not much news at all today.
Very slow for the mailbox. I keep kicking the server wondering if it will
spit more out. =) If you haven't taken notice to last night's patch, there
is a TON of new animated emotes to use. After you patch, you can find
the updated news in your Everquest directory under eqnews.txt. (don't
want to do the dirty work? I did it for you.. click here)
I spent all night in third person view playing with all of them. Some
are redundant but still very, very cool.

Rotgut sent this in concerning
the success of Gnomestock '99:
Many gnomes from far and near gathered in Ak'anon this evening to celebrate
recent advances in Gnome Tinker technology, and to also demonstrate a
great deal of gnome pride.
Many thanks to everyone who came, and extra special thanks to the GM's
and Guides who participated, and helped make the event truly special.

Cedrich sent this in
about last night's Quest on Povar:
"I made a decision tonight that could possibly have been one of the
dumbest decisions of my time playing EQ. King Tearis Thex decided to have
a gathering in Felwithe tonight on the Povar server. Upon hearing the
news, I zapped myself straight to the GFay spires, and headed off to Felwithe.
When I arrived, hoards of players filled the zone (max count of 101, I
believe). Nothing happened for quite awhile, but then "A Cute Rat", "A
Rat", and "A Gator" appeared in the zone. Some merchants began to shout
for us to get rid of them. I decided that I would help, so I proceeded
to attack a (what I now know was level 50ish) gator. The guards promptly
dispatched me to my bind point (in Dragnor's Cauldron). I laughed, shrugged
it off, and began memorizing my spells. Suddenly, I was "summoned by the
Gods!" This is about the point where I made my stupid mistake (I think).
Where did I end up? I was summoned, by Templeton The Wise, to Tox Forest,
just outside the zone to Kerra Isle. Two other players were summoned as
well. Templeton started scolding us for attacking the "sacred gator".
He said "The king shall slay thee!" I begged for his forgiveness, but
he simply shouted "BEGONE!" After that, he said "Poof", and vanished.
I stood around for a few minutes (naked), wondering what to do. Finally,
I decided to gate back to GFay, and see what was going on in Felwithe.
King Tearis Thex came out, and was introduced to his long lost daughter
Firiona Vie. They talked for a little while, then the king told us all
to go home. This is about the time that I smacked myself on the forehead,
and wondered if I should have remained in Tox Forest. I would really like
to know what happened in Tox after I hastily gated out. :(

-- Welcome to Gnomestock '99 --
The purpose of this event is to celebrate the discovery of the Third Book
of Gimbleston. This book contains many useful and new tinkering formulas,
as well as some more words of wisdom from Gimbleston himself. While the
location of the book is still only known to a few, those few have been
generous enough to share its contents with all gnomes. This act of sharing
shows true gnome spirit. I and many others are forever indebted and grateful
to this person.
Some events at Gnomestock '99 will include:
- Fishing with collapsable fishing poles and animated bait.
- A small fireworks display. (snicker)
- Free beer and booze for all.
- High Diving at the great wheel.
- And just some general, 'Gnomeing about'.
So come on out and meet everyone! I want to see Ak'anon packed with gnomes,
its our heritage, and I hope to see everyone there.

Hope to see you there!

Looks like I left town
with a bit of misinformation. The mana-regeneration while sitting does,
in fact, work.
Manan Faern D'Oloth sent me an apology (no problem friend) for the run
around. I'm sure that all of the 35+'s out there tried it for themselves
and found out otherwise. By the number of e-mail's I received concerning
the matter, I'd put money on it that they did.
Concerning the amount
of e-mail I get on a daily basis: I never wanted to or thought I would
be doing this, but I need to ask that before you e-mail me asking a question
about our class, try the other avenues first. Try the message board here,
or try the mailing
list (this mailing list is not run by me but by onelist.com) to see
if anybody is willing to answer your question. If that fails, by all means,
e-mail me and I will see what I can do. I really wish I could take the
time to answer everyone's questions, but I am losing ground with the site
and I really wish to keep up with the content for all of you. I might
find another way around this by trying to find a high level wizard that
is mature, levelheaded, and willing to answer such questions on his free
time. If this pans out, then I'll issue that person his own e-mail address
and I will have a bit more time on my hands to work on other aspects of
this site and my life. =) Thank you all for understanding!
Updates to come! Working
on them now.......

I got called away on a
business trip for a few days. So you won't be seeing any updates until
Monday. Sorry.. and keep casting!
Zakk Shadowmorph of Cazic
Thule has put together an excellent resource for blacksmith's. Although
you will not find many wizards making platemail, I had to give word of
his site for the great amount of info for this skill! Go visit K.C.'s
Guide to Blacksmithing!
Thank you Zakk!
It seems that I understood
Manan's e-mail wrong concerning the level 35 or higher, sit to meditate.
Manan Faern D'Oloth informed me that they completely took out the ability
to sit and meditate without your spellbook open...... bummer.
Thanks Manan! (sorta.. heh)

If you are of level 35
or higher, this last patch fixed the meditation bug. Manan Faern D'Oloth
sent in word that your mana bar now does move while simply sitting. Before,
you could sit without your spellbook open and you would gain mana, but
you would have to stand and fire off your Journeyman Boots or something
of the like to have mana bar rise. It has been corrected and should be
working the way it was intended.
Thanks Manan!
Buffe Kannon of Innoruuk
sent in the update pic for the Acumen Mask. Since the patch the effect
of 'Gaze' has been added to it. See it on the Head/Face
Armor page. (note: Manan Faern D'Oloth also sent in the new stats
but informed me that the effect is not working)
- 8:10am PST
Nate sent in news concerning
his EQ Mana and Weapon Damage Calculator. You can visit the Programs
page or visit the author's page here:
The EQ Mana and Weapon Damage Calc3.0 (newer version 3.5 available 10/26/99)
is out! Now just simply select the weapons you want to compare from the
pop-up list and that weapon's damage and delay is automatically put into
the program. Then you just make a few clicks and you have your comparison.
You can still compare duel wield and double attack, and you can also input
values manually in case you find a weapon that is not in the included
database. The included database has detailed info on all the weapons,
including lore and/or magic, classes and races, procs, and any bonuses.
You can access all this information if you have Access 97. If you don't
have Access, don't worry because the next version will have a feature
to show you all this info. Just hit a button and all the information will
pop up for you to see. This update should be released in a couple days.
I hope you all enjoy this!
Thanks Nate!

"I was fighting some shadowed men (before they upped the spawn)
with another wiz when I hill giant popped right as I pulled two that were
blue to me. I tried to gate immediately. I cast gate, then saw over a
screen of red attack text go by, got knocked unconsious, (had the out
of body experience) recovered my casting--while still unconscious--and
gated to Freeport. Heh."

- 1:35pm PST
I have received lots of
e-mail concerning the Ice Comet quest rod that is found in Oasis. All
of them conflicting. Some say it was the easiest to acquire (which it
was for me also) and some confirm their party being slaughtered. One viewer
says that the Goblin Casters can see through invisible if you are of level
45 or below and some say that they can only see through invisibility only
after a fight. My suggestion, create a throwaway character, run there
and have a wizard invis you, jump in and survey the situation. A little
hint here also, you don't have to enter the tower from the bottom door
(which is heavily guarded). Simply swim right through the top of the tower
or the windows.

"The Conclave Of The Staff will be having the grand opening of
the first Research Library on the Innoruuk server. The Research Library
contains Runes, Pages and Words essential for spell research. The Library
is TRADE only and to ensure the continued growth of the Library, non-guild
members trade at a 2 to 1 ratio. The Research Library will open it’s doors

but we hope to also expand to Erudin and Felwithe. Races/Classes that
are KOS can contact the Librarian via a /tell to setup a meeting outside
Freeport. Otherwise the Librarian will be found in the spellcasters guild
in West Freeport. For a complete listing of the research components currently

Drakkan Dragonsbane of
the Covenant of Blood guild on Prexus sent in more confirming info on
the disappearance of the Mana Stone:
"What the user submission said is no joke. Myself and a party
of friends camped the Evil Eye in lower guk live side from 8:00pm PST
On Saturday the 16th to 4:00am PST Monday the 18th. Do the math:
32 hour period
Less ~8 hours for sleep, food, etc
-
24 consecutive Evil eye camping hours
35 minutes per spawn leaves:
-
41 Eye or placeholder spawns
About 8 or 10 of which were placeholder live frogloks
-
Leaves over thirty consecutive confirmed Evil Eye kills on Prexus, yielding
no manastones. Bring our stones back!"
Thank you Drakkan!
Concerning the Acumen

the Glowing Mask is also dropped from the Scryer in Upper Guk.

A viewer sent in a note
concerning the Ice Comet Quest:
" In doing this quest, which by the way is very fun, I came across
a very rough part. The rod of FANA which is in the bottom of the lake
in Oasis. This is at the top of a tower guarded by many, many deepwater
goblins. My friend did this alone about a month or so ago at level 35
by going invis drinking a flask of enduring breath and swimming up and
grabbing it. Well doesn't seem so simple anymore. I tried and died 3 times
while trying to get it. he died 2 times. I had to call in the help of
my guild, a few level 50's for this. I am level 37 and they smoked me
very fast. some hit for 80's and they cast of course. evidently Verant
has made these buggers much harder. they can see through invis and when
my level 50 ranger showed up, with full Fear Plane gear he was almost
killed and he said a lot of them con blue to him. We brought in a level
50 cleric to help the ranger kill them so I could safely swim up. fine
they wiped them all, about 7 or 8 and the respawn is about 2 mins or less
on these things, they are like rabbits they spawn very fast so could be
a good spot to hunt because most 30 plus people are doing specs and SG...finally
we called in a druid, he cast wolf form on me and the gobs all became
apprehensive to me and I could swim right up unharmed and grab the rod.
beware if you are doing this and the other level 45 wizard that was showing
me around to these rods was shocked at how much harder it was for me to
get this rod than it was him just a month or so ago so maybe something
was changed in the last patch."

High Elf Enchanter:
" The enchanter is right next to the injured halfling. Falling
through the trap near Drelzna's room will drop you right in front of her.
Here is the text of the beginning of the quest from my log file:
You say, 'hail Linara Parlone'
Linara Parlone says 'Please [help] me out of this horrid place! My family
must be terribly worried.
You say, 'how can i help?'
Linara Parlone says 'If you can find the [key] to my restraints, I should
be able to escape.
You say, 'where is the key?'
Linara Parlone says 'Last I knew, Najena's Priest had the key. I fear
he has left this place though. I heard talk of traveling to some estate.
I know not where. Oh dear oh dear! I shall never leave this place!"
Thanks Tsonis!
Nezzar Enkahmin of Rodcet
Nife sent this in concerning the Specialization Quest within Solusek Ro:
"Finally got a response to my petition, feedback's, and emails.
The quest works for those members who have not had specialization skills
reach 50. If you have two or more skill levels over 50, (a small amount
of people had skill levels in two or more increase beyond 50 prior to
the patch that limited it to one skill level above 50) and only one is
increasing now, albeit the wrong one, there is no help for you. One of
the GM's, Trailkis, if I remember correctly, is trying to work with Verant
trying to get this fixed so that those who have more than one skill level
at 50 or above can change their main skill level back to 49. If any who
are in this position attempt the quest, they will end up like me and be
out the cost of one ruby, which for some can run about 160 pp. Good luck
to all."

Many people asking

Now there may be a new twist to it, but as of yet, nobody has found that

Another new quest?:"Mystic
Cloak is obtained by doing a quest that starts in Najena. Find and talk

with her. It is to my understanding that the quest will lead you to several
other continents. A friend gave me this to send in so I don't know all

Lower Guk. Since the patch.. I have killed the eye 26 times and nothing..
a friend has killed it about 15 times and nothing.. and another friend
has done 5-10 without getting one. I'm beginning to think that the rumor
is more than just a rumor."
Meditation while sitting:
"The Meditate while sitting (level 35+) was partially implemented
in the last patch. If you sit, you will regain mana at your meditation
rate. Problem being, it doesn't update your mana bar. If you sit for 2
minutes, then stand and activate your jboots, or cast a small spell, you
will see your mana bar update to where it should have been if you were
staring at your book for 2 mins whilst meditating."

Some important info was
sent in concerning loading spells in the memory slots and being charmed:
"I was looking at their screen shot of Hasten you have posted,
and they have an offensive spell memmed in their bottom slot (the 8 spell
slots on the left side of the screen shot). IF they were ever to get charmed,
this is the spell the AI WILL CAST!!! Please post something to warn your
readers (and forward this to Keiote) that they should put gate or a self
only buff in the bottom spell slot. (As the AI will not gate you and/or
buff you). Even if you are charmed for only 2 seconds by a mob, it still
may get 1 cast off.
I was once fighting evil eyes with a young wizard who didn't know
any better and they had force shock memmed in this slot and it almost
got me killed, but luckily I gated out. I have also seen a cleric who
got charmed in lower guk with superior heal memmed in the slot. Unfortunately
the party had to kill the cleric to keep him from healing the charming
mob!!"

Couple warnings concerning
the Temple of Solusek Ro:
This from Nezzar Enkahmin of Rodcet Nife :
"Greetings, I am emailing to let you inform players of the possibility
of the Specialization Removal Quest being inop. My character's name is
Nezzar, I play on the Rodcet Nife server, and am a level 31 wizard. I
followed the quest, giving the ruby to Ostorm like he had asked. He then
said that my specialization is now at 49 and I got faction adjustments
415 and 416. He then asked for the 50 gold pieces I owed him. I paid him
and went on my way. Went to guild, tried to train in it, but it said that
it was maxed. While fighting, during a med period, glanced at my skill
levels and noticed that my abjuration was average while my evocation was
at below average. The skills were not reset. Now, the only thing I can
think of is the possibility of the 50 gold pieces being to nullify this
effect. I am not sure of this, the 50 gold pieces were in brackets, but
only after doing the quest, giving him the ruby, I was in a conversation
with another at that time and lost the NPC talk so I could not bring up
that dialogue with the NPC Ostorm. If anyone out there is going to do
this quest, have them ask about the gold pieces and what they are for
before they pay for it. It may be that it cancels the effect. Warn the
others. I have submitted a feedback after I noticed it, (I had done a
petition, but the 2 GM's online got off line before answering my petition),
and I am waiting on an email from Verant if they respond. Thank you"
Thank you Nezzar!
This from Solice:
"In the temple. Beware the genie (Tazgar, the Efreeti).
If you hail him you take a faction hit. You should be able to identify
him. He is the one surrounded by corpses. It seems to have a varrying
effect. But 2 different reports. One person hailed him over and over and
the whole temple turned to warmly. Another did it and the whole temple
went aggro on him. Just be wary, even hailing him causes a faciton adjustment."
Thank you Solice!
If you do mess up your faction somehow, killing off Shadowmen will raise
your faction with the inhabitants of the Temple.

Temple of Solusek Ro is

to me and I am a Dark Elf that kills most anything that moves. The lava
within the zone does inflict damage. A tip to get info from our quest
givers: turn on your log file and stand near both of the NPC's (Vilissia,
and Gardern). There will be so many people spamming, it is too hard to
catch all of the details. Once you have stood there long enough, log off
and go read your log file for the quest info. I also took it upon myself

Hi, just wanted to let everyone know that there are now Palm OS and Windows
CE versions of EQMana available on my site: http://www.everquests.com/.
Nice way to check a stat enhancing item's impact on your mana, while you
are playing.
Thanks Arn!

After all of the e-mail
that was received about the vendor location of the Alter Plane:Fear, it
seems that it is still not found. This may be a individual server issue.
Now what I am asking is that someone send in a screenshot of the vendor's
inventory, name the vendor, the town, and the server in which you found
it on. This will help considerably. Jpg's are fine for this shot due to
I probably will not edit the pic at all. Please do not email
with it's location unless you have screenshot of it for sale. Thank you!
Ventura of Bristlebane
sent in some good news for us casters concerning Ice Comet and higher
level mobs:
"... last night on the Bristlebane server a bunch of brave fighters
took down Nagafen. But, more importantly, on the two tries of Ice Comet
I was able to get both through on him. You can indeed hit Nagafen!!!"
Thanks for the good news Ventura! (now, how much damage did you do per
cast? heh)

Version 2.2 of the EQ
Mana and Weapon Damage Calculator is done and it's got a cool new
feature! It now calculates averages of duel weild and double attack based
on your level and uses that to calculate max average damage for a given
amount of time. It also still allows you to compare a 2 handed wep to
2 1 handed weps, now accounting for the averages of duel weild and double
attack you will get. Cool huh!
Thanks Kannin AKA Vengeant! (visit the programs page for more info and
a link to the author's site)

Wow... ask and you shall
receive, eh? Lots of people (and I mean lots) submitted the location of
the Alter Plane: Fear spell. So.. here you go Synge: the majority of the
e-mail's say it is found within the Erudin Library. Many others say it
can be found in the Felwithe Library and the Neriak Library. Thank you
so much to everybody that submitted! I would name them all but it would
be a page in itself.
As for the rogue within
Rathe Mountains.. it seems he is nowhere to be found. Haelrox Harbinger,
Ogre Warrior of Solusek Ro (funny how many other classes visit the site),
has told me that he has read somewhere that Brad McQuaid has stated that
there will be a quest for the boots but it has not been implemented to
the live servers as of yet.

I've had a request via
e-mail for the location of the spell "Alter Plane: Fear". If
you have the location of this spell as to where it can be purchased, please
e-mail
me in the info.
I've also spent some
time running through the Rathe Mountains looking for that elusive rogue
and his two wizard counterparts that have stolen Drelzna's Boots. If you
have the location of this rogue, please e-mail
me the info also.
I made an error yesterday
with the Nightmare Hide that I should have caught. The Hide is actually
a cloak that can be worn. So, I have moved it to the Cloaks and Capes
Armor area. Thank you for catching that Aranir!
Looking for that elusive
Quillmane that drops the Pegasus Feather Cloak? Lindiien Lightbringer
of Xegony submitted a nice shot of her crossing South Karana.. take a
look!

Sulgar
and the Ice Comet Quest: A bit ago Kryogen Katspaw posted some
of this info to the General Message Board. I have confirmed it so I will
post it here so all can read: If you are still not able to speak to Sulgar
within Everfrost Peaks concerning the Ice Comet Quest, there is only one
thing you can do... and that is petition so that a full GM can help you.
There is faction that Sulgar is based on called 'beta-neutral'. Everyone
that cannot talk to Sulgar is trying to find a way to raise this faction.
This is a faction in game that is not supposed to change so that anybody
can speak to NPC's with this type of faction.. no matter what they have
killed in the past. Apparently, there was a mob within Mistmoore (a werewolf)
that did effect this faction when killed. This mob has been fixed but
unfortunately, before it was, it effected a few Wizards out there. So,
if you wish to have this corrected... write a nice petition stating your
problem with Sulgar and maybe.. just maybe if your server's GM is online
and feeling kind, they will help you out. There is no promises and don't
say "Graffë said you would change it for me!" because I
didn't say it. =) Good luck!
Quests for Wizards within
the Temple of Solusek Ro: I've seen a few upset people on the message
boards, within my e-mails, and over on the Wizard Mailing List concerning
the lack of Wizard quests within the upcoming zone of the Temple of Solusek
Ro. I posted to the mailing list saying not to get upset yet because the
zone is not completed. In saying that, it seems some changes have already
taken place within the new zone. Tirion of Povar sent in this e-mail:
" After I heard there wasn't any wizard quests in the temple I decided
I had to take a look for myself before I believed it. I found two npc's
on the balcony opposite of the mage's quest. Gardern gives the quests
for Staff of Temperate Flux and Weeping Wand and Vilissia gives quests
for Runescale Cloak, Tishans Kilt and Acumen Mask. Gardern seems a bit
bugged... I can't get past the first hail, but Vilissia is working fine.
Vilissia will make the Runescale Cloak if you give her a Lizardscale
Cloak and three Runes of Scale. The runes can be found on saltwater crocs
in Guk, deepwater caiman in Oasis and firescale crocs in Rath Mountains.
For Tishans Kilt, which I am assuming is going to be a lower magic resist
effect on it, you need to take a Shadowed Ball, from shadow men, to Trankia
in Everfrost (I am assuming it continues from there.) And for the Acumen
Mask she wants a Glowing Mask from a Skel Monk in Guk, Patch of Shadow,
Darkbone Skull from Unrest and a Bonechipped Mask from a Goblin Headmaster
in OOT. "
Thank you Tirion!

Qenelin Bu'Khma mailed
in some information and pics of the new upcoming zone, Temple of Solusek
Ro. Here is an exerpt of his info and the pics to follow:
"....The zone is very small. I've found one secret passage, leading
me to Tazgar (a cool looking NPC who did not answer Hails) and barring
more, the whole zone is the size of Northern Felwithe, if not smaller.
I must admit, it was beautiful to behold. The furniture and buildings
looked great . So why was I disappointed? Well, first of all there are
NO WIZARD QUESTS, that I could find. All I found were Cleric, Mage, Enchanter
and Necromancer quests. Classes that already have an abundance of quests,
if you ask me. Not that I'm against, but Wizards got the shaft, once again,
and that angers me. Moreover, all the quests were similar to the crafted
armor quests - bring me this and that and I'll give you this and that
armor/weapon/spell. Nothing to think about, nothing to explore, just straightforward
"go camp that mob" quests. Finally, there are just not that many quests.
Qeynos has more quests than this, I am sure. Oh yeah, there is one guy
who will (assumingly) erase your specialization. This is for those who
went over 50 on the wrong skill and want to change it. No big deal."
