Suggestions for places to beam kite

I'd like to see some pro's and cons on different areas to beam kite at.

Currently what I have tried or thought about or heard.
    Spiders area SE Icefall
    Pro's
    yellow mobs. Nice open space.
    Cons
not enough mobs. pulling from north difficult to get decent train and possible summoning birds. icefall can get crowded during prime/close to prime times.

    Bears SE icefall
    Pro's
yellow mobs. no summoners. plenty of room
    con's
    still in icefall

    69.1
    Pro's
plenty of mobs. no lag. instanced zone so can get repops with bot.
    con's
blue con mobs. difficult to pull some mobs.

    What are your thoughts/suggestions?

As a wizard, Beam Kiting is anti-social and interferes with other people's use of a zone. Since you can't be sure when people would like to use a zone, I don't think there's ever an excuse for disrupting it (even doing this in instances causes the instance server to do more processing than it should, and potentially disrupt play).

Beam Kiting in Icefall has caused my group mates severe disruption, it stops mob respawning and causes massive zone lag. While I think the root cause is a problem with the pathing in Icefall, the impact is only caused when someone beam kites 50+ mobs.

Hopefully they'll put a target count limit on the beam spell asap to prevent this kind of abuse.

Edit: It has the same negative game impact as ShakerPaging, and I was glad (as someone who also plays a warrior) when that was fixed for the same reasons.

Count limit is going to be down to 8.

Beam Kiting is a legitamate strategy and every wizard should at least try to learn how to do it.

It is a much higher risk strat than Instant kiting but can produce more XP.

There is no shame in Beam kiting if you are not being a jerk and disrupting others.

    I beam kite in icefall.
I never pull more than 15-20 mobs.
I never get lag but just to be on the safe side i only do it when there are 10 or less people in the zone.
I get good xp and it doesn't disrupt anyone.
I use it to help friends get aa's as well, never found helping others to be anti-social. I do it with other wizards to kill faster, never found grouping to be anti-social.
I've never had anyone /ooc why's there so much lag? or anything similar.
Being polite while kiting is the same as being polite any other time. I wouldn't steal mobs from someplace someone else is camping and I won't beam kite 50 mobs at a time. Not only is it rude, but it exponentially increases the danger once you pull enough to cause lag. Lag not only hurts others but the kiter as well. That tank having his heal land 1 second late against one xp mob is probably gonna be just fine. The kiter not moving for 1 second is probably dead.

    Yes, it, does.

Most people either think it's just Icefall being Icefall, or don't say anything in OOC because they get pilloried.

more examples of NON-instance mobs would be nice ..

I wish they'd make a few soloable instances.(as in get the instance without having 2 bots)

There are some worgs in the western area of Loping Plains that are decent. I did a couple beam kites today there and I think that might be an ok area for future octakiting. Few trees but they can easily be marked on your map and they're pretty skinny. The mobs were dark blue at 80 and giving about 11-12% AA per kill.

_clearly_ I've been out of the loop for a while. What is "beam kiting"? (When I quit, was getting qvic/anguish gear and could quad in fire no problem self buffed... so I know at least that much...)

Beam kiting refers to kiting with the "Beam of Solteris Rk. II" spell (The Burning Sea expansion).

Beams are just a different style of AE. They hit everything in a cylinder 30' wide and 150' long directly in front of you. However it's wildmagic and has a chance to proc a recourse on you that blinds/roots you for a while.

I havn't done much due to a sketchy mana pool (just returned to the game after several years absence), but it's damned fun. Little risky but when you get the hang of it, it can rock. Definitely not a replacement for a good group though.

    Lies, all lies!

Since SoF came out, beam was nerfed and doesn't have the potential it used to. Couple that with piss-poor zone lag as a result of poor design (on a quad-core with other goodies, no way I should lag) and beam kiting becomes much more difficult if not impossible. As long as you have 13k mana or so and can get far enough away to pop harvest, you can take an impressive amount of mobs down at once.

Be sure to bring plenty of hot pots as the recourse dot has the potential to kill you.
