It's not a crutch... it's financial reality. If you want money, people are going to want to expect results. What I outlined is at a very high level, not something your average grunt is going to be privileged to.
I know what you're saying, but I still strongly disagree.

It may be a reality now, but it's a limitation in the way we think about money and work, and there's got to be a better way to do it.

Do you have a suggestion? How do you get people to give you money, without expecting any sort of timeframe on the return?

Green splinted mail and a sword covered in lighter fluid, probably.

Oh, and someone needs to tell Loonie-tunes McQuaid that the era of the garage-programmer team churning out the next mainstreem hit fueled by pizza & jolt is at least a decade dead.

Any one who sees him post anywhere, please post links. I want to watch the circus that comes out of that thread.

I want to perform as one of the circus clowns.
“Our opponent is an alien starship packed with atomic bomc,” I said. “We have a protractor. Okay, I'll go home and see if I can scrounge up a ruler and a piece of string.”

He's been seen lurking on the FOH and Silky Venom boards, so I'm guessing it won't be much longer.

I already said I don't have an answer to that. That doesn't make the point invalid.

A guy at F13 posted this comment:

    slog

I wish you had asked him if he every played WoW....
There's really no excuse if he didnt.

Everything else is simply spin. It doesn't really matter now, anyway. The guy is finished as a major player and so are most of his theories and ideas.

WoW and LOTRO has shown the way and there's no turning back.

With funding being the problem that it was, it's a damn shame they didn't have someone running around with a camera to record all of the shit that was going on and sell the rights to it for a reality tv show. They'd have gotten another month or two dev time easy.

Hmm, I can't find the one I was thinking of online. She's probably got a MySpace page, knowing her, but who knows what her name would be.

    You're now reading my sig!

Branaman - Cows can be annoying, they step on you, and lick your sweat off.
Rombus - PS: Zedd, you can think what you want but I'll let you put sand in my V any time you want.

Heh. I'm sure he will on FOH. Brad would get eaten alive here. Graffe's posters would have a field day with him.

Good lord he actually thinks MS wanting a schedule was a bad thing. Not having any sort of schedule is probably what killed VG.

Seriously. When you read about how big projects work at the successful game companies, there all these checks and balances to maintain schedules.
