Just got done listening to that song, actually, and in her honor. I can't imagine S&G wrote it thinking of the role Bancroft played in the Bachelor, though?
I believe they did write it for The Graduate. Clarification edit -- they wrote snippets for the movie. The entire song apparently was not compiled from those fragments until later, assuming that this Wikipedia article is correct (given that this IS Wikipedia, I make no guarantees for its complete accuracy):Quote:

Well she was Mrs. Robinson on Broadway and the film version of The Graduate...while possible Id be surprised if they werent inspired by her.Quote:

How did I go all this time and not know she was married to Mel Brooks? And my favourite line from The Graduate, which went into my husband's 30th birthday card last month:
Mrs. Robinson: Do you find me undesirable?
Benjamin: Oh no, Mrs. Robinson. I think, I think you're the most attractive of all my parents' friends. I mean that.
I was just talking about her last weekend too, trying to explain to someone the meaning of "Mrs. Robinson! You're trying to seduce me!"
:( She'll be missed.
Her sitting on that chair and spreading her legs so that poor Benjamin got the full effect is one of the earliest erotic movie moments I can recall. Great actress.
Iirc the movies contains snippets that aren't in the song version. I always wondered why until now. My favorite role of hers was as the aging actress in Elephant Man.
