Old Ironforge

Anyone know what this zone is for?

To get there easily, just go to the middle of Ironforge where the Great Anvil is. No invisible walls here, so you can jump off and die in the lava.

Once you're dead, head back to Ironforge and enter the Kings Room (The High Seat). Walk towards the stairs. Once you get to the stairs, turn around and look towards the exit.

Flanking each side of the exit you will see two massive locked doors.

The left door goes nowhere, the door on the right however, decends beneath Ironforge into Old Ironforge.

Is this going to be where they put Player Housing or something?

I hear it's a good place to kill the king. /duck.

My guess is it will lead to a pathway/tunnel which will go to the Gnomish Airport.

Think of it like Futurama!

Were they ever planning something like the Stockade for IF at one time?

Man, how'd you find this? Sounds pretty cool... I'll have to check it out.

Would be a nice place for an instanced dungeon.

Its pretty easy to get to, if you die in the right place in the lava you can rez yourself right behind the door.

If you pay attention to your minimap while in IF, you will see a area that you cannot get to through normal means. I first heard about Old IF from a poster here (think it was Ringo), and after some recent illicit exploring elsewhere I noticed it on my minimap and remembered what had been said about how you get to there.

In alpha and most of beta (after the IF revamp -- the original map was quite different), the doors to Old Ironforge were open. It's a neat area similar to the uninstanced portion of Blackrock Mountain, with columns and platforms suspended over the lava. It absolutely looks like they intended to put instances there. Hopefully they will, if only for the dwarven lifequest.

I checked it out today with my Paladin. If you use the Paladin suicide spell (I forget the name) just outside the door, you can actually rez on the other side and walk around alive. No NPCs down there, but it's still pretty cool. It makes me wonder if there's anything beyond the unopenable doors in Stormwind Keep...

I checked this out last night by lifetapping and then hellfiring myself to death infront of the door, and was able to rez on the other side. Definintely a cool area, I hope they open it up sometime soon.

Hah, didn't even think of using the suicide spell.

Incidentally, for you that can kill yourselves (and those who can actually make it there, what with the dragons and all guarding it) you can get into the Caverns of Time by dying and rezzing on the other side of the door. Supposedly very, very cool inside.

Demonic Runes and some trinkets make this an option for just about anyone.

Incedentally, where is the Caverns of Time. Sounds like a place i'd like to explore.

Tanaris. This topic on the WoW boards has lots of nice info on unfinished areas, including CoT and Old Ironforge. There's a lot of unfinished content for them to expand into.

EDIT: there is also some screenshots from CoT in the thread too.

Wow, those Caverns of Time screeshots look bad as hell. Can't wait for that one to open.

Yeah, it sounds like it's going to be cool. People who have checked it out says there are floating, upside orc huts and stuff in it. :cool:

Plus, it's the bronze dragonflight, so they will probably have some cool tricks up their sleeves. Maybe a debuff that reverts your level or something. That would be mean.
