The most engrossing game of all time for me was Everquest. I received more enjoyment from that game than any other.
The milestone games for me were:
1. Tic Tac Toe at the Boston Museum of Science (first computer game I remember - massive lines to play one game)
2. Adventure on my Uncle's old PDP 11 (my Uncle was a computer science prof at MIT and had the first "home" computer I ever saw. Played Adventure on it very very early).
3. Akalabeth/Temple of Apshai (early Apple II games that were precursors to the early graphical rpgs. Akalabeth was Lord British's first game I think).
4. Wizardry (3d Mazes and a full party - wonderful game, Sir Tech made it - the ending kind of sucked)
5. Gemstone 3, Dragonsgate, Dikumuds - I discover the internet (sort of) and get addicted to text muds - big time....loved them... loved the interaction. I could probably still find my way around the main towns in those games.
6. Super Mario Brothers - Played a ton of this game with buddies. We would play hoops then retire to the apt. to play SMB! My favorite console game of all time
7. EQ
8. System Shock 2 - Amazing story telling and immersion - I was soooo engrossed in this game.
9. Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory - My favorite shooter and really the only one I was ever very good at.
10. Bioshock - I loved the creepiness of it and the way there was an alternative history built into the gam
